I am a bit confused why so many things are not working / making sense...

Firstly, the scan to computer does not work. I am the person who set up the printer (several times now)...

razconsulting_0-1697404159225.png

Secondly: the apps on my printer will not be installed, rendering scanning to mail impossible.

Thirdly, the printer does not appear on my profile (HPID), nor does the extended guarantee I bought.

Lastly, the printer just sometimes is not found by my computer. While still being on the network...

Welcome to the HP Community --

Most things can be fixed - more than one might be solved by installing the full driver printer software.

=========================================

Printer - Printer Software

Details Page - Driver - For your Printer

>>> Full Feature Software - Web Pack Installation Package - Information - Download / Save / Install <<<

HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One Print and Scan Driver and Accessories

After the software is installed, Restart the computer and sign in.

====================================

The installation of the full driver adds at least two shortcuts to the Desktop:

Printer Assistant

HP Scan

>>> Open the Printer Assistant > tab Scan Manage Scan to Computer Enable

Example - Windows - Full Feature Software - Installed in Programs and Features

Printer - HP Smart - Windows

At this writing:

This method works but only if you have NOT yet upgraded from Windows Mail to the "Outlook app" that is soon taking place of the Windows Mail app.  What?  Outlook app does not work with HP Smart > Share

Example - HP Smart - Windows - Scan

Scan > Preset = Document > Scan > Share (to Email)

=========================================

Printer - Webscan

Webscan – located in the Embedded Web Server (EWS) – No additional software

This option requires a network connection and EWS

EWS > HP Document / How-to

Use the HP printer Embedded Web Server (EWS)

NOTE: Webscan feature is not available on Laser printers

If the printer is on the network,

If the EWS feature is available on your printer,

First Time Use Only: Enable Webscan

Open your Browser > Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Tab Settings > Security > Administrator Settings > Enable >> Check box next to Webscan

Click Apply to save any changes

Use Webscan

Open your Browser > Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Tab Scan > Webscan

Set up Webscan the way you want it - for example, set the Source to ADF

Click Start Scan to scan your document / image using Webscan

After the scan is complete, Save the scan to your computer.

Example - Webscan - Enable and Use

Hey,

Thanks for the effort, but not really solved.

The scanning is possible, but I find it ridiculously cumbersome that I have to activate the HP scan on my computer, get up, put a document, scan, go to my computer, do some things on the HP scan again, get up, scan another document...

With the previous (477dw), I could just select "scan to mail" on my printer, and send it to a mail address.

Also, the apps still do not update, and the extended guarantee does not show up

You are welcome.

True - different printers support different options.

There is no way to solve features that are not supported.

Sure - and even in context, I might miss something.

Yeah, but my other printer...

The7740 does not support SMTP Scan to Email Profiles -- that is a big difference in my opinion.

I'd not have a printer that lacks digital send / save and partly for the reasons you mention.

I do believe the printer supports ePrint - which is not useful in the context of scanning anyway, so no win there.

No, offhand, I don't know why your extended warranty is not showing up.

If you like, start a different thread and ask about that.

I cannot explain why any / some / various printer apps don't show on the printer control panel.

Thanks a lot for your help. It really is a pity that this feature cannot be added, because it's also an ecological wast to send the printer back for that reason and have it go to waste.

You are welcome.

Not sure about where you live -- in my region, a nice printer like this one would not be dropped into landfill unless the owner deliberately sent it there.  A school, community center, perhaps a friend, and any charity that accepts printers might be glad to get a printer like this one.  Consider trying to find it a home.

If you are going to return to to the place of purchase:  Printers and other devices that are in good working order might be completely refurbished and sold as such.  There are no guarantees, of course -- regional laws and practices vary widely.

Good Luck.
