My mother, now deceased, had a laser printer connected to a Windows machine via WiFi. Her computer died so she just stopped using it before her death. My Mac and iPhone, which had been used to print to it when my mother was alive, see the laser printer on the list of printers but can’t reliably print to it. It shows as offline usually. I wondered if signing in might help, but “sign in” asks for an access code. If my mother used one and saved it, it was lost when her computer failed.

I’m unsure if signing in is even the problem. But I can’t seem to get Mac to reliably print using it anymore. I did once by turning on network access in some area in settings. That is still enabled, but it went back to being offline as far as the Mac is concerned.
thanks

has anything changed in the setup? Is the printer still connected to the same network as before? If connecting via WIFI and you have moved to a new modem/router it could be a compatibility issue between the printer's wifi and the router. This is sometimes caused by trying to connect to a newer 5Ghz router. One solution if this is the case is to program the router to use a different SSID for the 2.4Ghz channel and only allow the printer to connect to that 2.4Ghz channel.

Thank you. I did 2 things. I connected my main computer to it with a cable.
Then I moved it back across the room to where it once was.
Now it shows up as 2 printers. One is set up as the default printer for my computer. The 2nd, the printer in its original location, no closer to the router or WiFi than it was when I moved it to the new failed location, now works as a 2nd printer from my phone.

thanks
