I am getting patches of printed documents where the black ink does not print.  I checked the community and was told to reinstall the drivers.  I have tried to do that, with the help of my company's IT who owns my computer, and they tell me the driver for my printer does not appear in the list of drivers.  How can I fix my printing issue.  cleaning the heads does not fix this

Hi @Colleen1235,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your black ink is printing in patches, cleaning the printheads did not help, and you were advised to reinstall the driver but the correct driver does not appear in the list. Let’s go through a few steps to address both the printing issue and the driver concern.

Clarify the driver availability situation
Many newer HP inkjet printers do not use a separate, model-specific “classic” driver.
Instead, Windows installs a built-in driver automatically or uses HP Smart to manage printing.

Confirm the printer is using an HP driver (not generic)
Open Printers & scanners, select your printer, then open Printer properties.
Check the driver name; if it shows “Generic” or “IPP Class Driver,” this can cause print quality issues.

Remove the printer completely from Windows
In Printers & scanners, remove the printer.
Restart the computer to clear cached driver and spooler components.

Reinstall using HP Smart
Install or open HP Smart, then choose Add Printer.
HP Smart installs the correct driver package automatically, even if it is not listed separately.

Do not manually pick from the Windows driver list
If your IT team is looking for a downloadable “driver file,” it may not exist for this model.
HP Smart is the supported installation method for many HP inkjet printers.

Check print quality settings after reinstall
Open Printing Preferences and make sure Print Quality is set to Normal or Best.
Draft or economy modes can cause missing or faded black areas.

Verify cartridge type and age
Confirm the black cartridge is genuine HP and not expired or refilled.
A failing cartridge can cause patchy output even when ink level appears normal.

Reseat and inspect the black cartridge
Remove the black cartridge and check the copper contacts and ink nozzles.
Clean gently with a lint-free cloth and reinstall firmly.

Print a printer self-test or quality report
Print a quality or diagnostic page directly from the printer menu.
If black is missing or broken on this page, the issue is hardware or cartridge related, not the computer.

I hope this helps.
