Hi @Bart710,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
To bypass the "SETUP cartridge" message on your HP Photosmart 5522 printer, follow these steps.
Use Setup Cartridges (If Available)
- The most straightforward solution is to use the setup cartridges that originally came with the printer, if you still have them. If you don't, move on to the steps below.
Resetting the Printer
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Open the cartridge access door.
- Hold down the power button for 10-15 seconds.
- While holding the power button, reconnect the power cord and turn the printer back on.
- Once the printer turns on, close the cartridge door.
Reset NVRAM (Non-Volatile RAM)
Resetting the NVRAM can help clear the printer's memory of the setup cartridge requirement.
- Turn the printer off and unplug it.
- Press and hold the “#” and “6” buttons on the printer's control panel.
- While holding the buttons, plug in the printer and turn it back on.
- Once the printer powers on, release the buttons. This should reset the NVRAM.
Accessing the Support Menu (Semi-Full Reset)
- On the control panel, press the back button (arrow) on the printer four times. This should bring up the Support Menu.
- Scroll to the Resets Menu and choose a Semi-Full Reset option.
- The printer will reset itself and should bypass the setup cartridge requirement. Be aware that this might restore the printer to factory settings, so any custom settings will need to be re-entered.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
