Hello! I have been having an issue with my webcam not working. When I open Skype, Camera app, etc, the webcam is not found. I have searched in the device manager for my camera, and the "Camera" category is non-existent (Will provide pictures), and under "imaging devices" there's nothing. Here's what I have tried already:
1. Resetting camera app via the camera app settings.
2. Scanning for hardware changes in device manager.
3. Adding new legacy hardware in the device manager (nothing is listed under the "camera" option).
4. Removing the bottom cover of the laptop to ensure that the webcam connector was secured
5. Looked in firewall settings and ensured that windows camera was allowed permissions
6. Used command prompt and did "chkdsk" then restarted my computer to allow fixes
7. Installed realtek camera drivers (Did not work, same error message received.
8. Used HP assistant to diagnose /troubleshoot
9. Updated all possible drivers using HP recovery manager
10. Searched for drivers in HP customer support- Software and driver download
Here's is what I have not tried:
1. Resetting Windows
2. Factory resetting laptop
3. Taking apart display and checking if the webcam has been unplugged.
I don't know what else to try. I'm desperate to get my webcam working again because I need it. The webcam drivers are completely missing from the device manager, but in another post, I saw an employee offer to provide the user with the correct driver. Can you assist me with this? Please advise. Thank you.

@Shelly25 Here's a few other things you can check, to resolve this issue:
Check the anti-virus program settings & ensure it isn't blocking the camera and the same should resolve the issue, if this doesn't help, try the below steps:
here's a few steps to resolve the issue, start with checking for the webcam kill switch (if available on your model, if not: click here & follow the steps) and ensure its turned on,
That said, If your webcam has stopped working after installing a new update, you should uninstall the update and roll back to the older version. You will have to open Device Manager > right-click on the device > select Properties > switch to Driver tab > click on Roll Back Driver button > select Yes on the next window. After that, you need to restart your PC to check whether it is working.
If that doesn't work or there were no updates before the issue occurred, you might need to uninstall the webcam driver.
To do this, open Device Manager > right-click on the device > select Properties > switch to Driver tab > click on Uninstall Device button.
Restart your computer and then open Device Manager again and click on Action > Scan for hardware changes. (this would automatically reinstall the best drivers for it)
Once done, I suggest you install all the latest pending Windows updates as below and check if it helps.
- Go to “settings” and click on “update and security”.
- Under tab “Windows update”, click on the icon “check for updates”.
- Then once you find the pending updates install it and check.
