Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I bought a new HP LaserJet MFP M234dw Printer. I have a HP ProBook 470 G3 Notebook PC and I want to configure direct print with the new printer. My OS is Windows 10 Enterprise 22H2, build 19045.6456.

As I don't have a local network, "HP Smart" (and other HP apps) aren't able to connect to and configure the printer.

I searched for solutions and tried a number of them: from restarting the devices, updating Windows, scanning the disk and checking Windows health to some very specific steps, but none worked.

I activated direct print on the printer and tried to add a new printer on Windows: PC Settings - Devices - Printers & Scanners - Add a printer or scanner - Show WiFi direct printers - here I see my printer, but when I select it and enter the PIN that was just printed on the printer, I got a message "Can't do that" (or something similar).

What are the debugging steps I can try at this point?
