HP DESKJET GT 5820
Other

Hi,

I've been using the HP DESKJET GT 5820 with the HP Smart app since 2018 and it was okay until today. Today, I've tried printing with the HP Smart app and it will not let me sign in into my account. Also, I could not print anything with my phone as well as my family members' phones, which used to be usable before this. However, I can still print via Wifi using my laptop.

Hi @banana321,

Welcome to HP Support Community!

We noticed that this thread hasn't had any updates in a while since your original post; while this is rare, we didn't want this post to remain unanswered, so, here's the solution to your query. We hope it helps you and everyone viewing this post 😊

Thanks for the detailed explanation — it sounds like something recently changed with the HP Smart app or your HP account authentication that's affecting mobile printing, but not standard Wi-Fi printing from a PC.

Here’s a breakdown of steps on how to fix it:

Possible Causes:

  1. HP Smart app login issue (server-side or app update).
  2. HP account-related changes (password change, 2FA issue, or service outage).
  3. App update broke compatibility (especially with older printer models like the GT 5820).
  4. Local network issue (though less likely, since printing from the laptop still works).

Suggested Fixes:

  1. Check HP Smart App Version
  • Go to the App Store / Google Play and make sure HP Smart is fully updated.
  • If already updated recently, try reverting to an earlier version (if possible) or testing on another phone with an older version.
  1. Try Logging into HP Account on Web
  • Go to: https://www.hp.com and sign into your HP account manually.
  • If login fails there too, reset your password and try again.
  • If login works fine, it confirms the issue is with the HP Smart app, not the account.

  1.  Clear HP Smart App Data / Reinstall
  • Uninstall and reinstall HP Smart on the phone.
  • Reboot the phone, reinstall the app, and try signing in again.
  • Alternatively, go to App Settings > Storage > Clear Cache & Data (on Android) before launching the app again.

Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved, and if you feel this reply was helpful, click “Yes”.
