Officejet 6500A Plus
macOS 10.15 Catalina

Hi,

I'm having trouble updating the firmware of my Officejet 6500A Plus. I am on macOS and do not have access to a windows PC.

Firmware requires updating in order to connect to my home wifi network as explained here: https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c05240288

Disabling network security does allow the printer to connect to the network, however "check for product update" displays that there is no update available.

I'm aware of the CIP1FN1621AR windows firmware update and the installation workaround explained here: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/LaserJet-Printing/Can-t-upgrade-firmware-Officejet-6500a-Plus/td-p/874...

But I'm not sure if/how the described copy of the .ful file from the pc to the printer can be performed on mac in terminal.

I've also tried using HP smart and HP Utility to no avail.

Utility does not show an option for updating.

HP Smart prompts to setup web services. Attempting this on the printer returns that the printer is unable to connect to the server and that a proxy server is required. I don't know what to do from here.

Any help with this issue would be much appreciated.

The printer is currently connected to my mac via USB2.0

Thank you for your time and assistance.

@newnhams

I reviewed your post and I understand that you are facing issues updating the printer firmware.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

Print a status report and check the current version of firmware installed on the printer. We do not recommend using the terminal to update the firmware.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!
