HP OfficeJet 3830
macOS 10.14 Mojave

Hi,

My name is Standard and I am here on the forums because I am having issues setting up my HP OfficeJet 3830 Printer to my 2012 MacBook Pro laptop that runs iOS Mojave.  I have followed steps on how to set up my printer, however, when it is time to install the recommended software, I keep getting the following error message in the Screenshot below:

Cannot obtain software errorCannot obtain software error

Okay, so my screenshot did not upload properly (its just a triangle instead when it should have been the screenshot of the error) I don't know why but it is very frustrating, so here is the error in written form:

Cannot obtain software information. Check your network connection, and then try again.

I was able to install this printer on my iMac that runs iOS Catalina without any error. Why am I getting errors here? Could it be my operating system isn't compatible? Am I missing something?

I have tried to speak over the phone with a support agent on this issue but they were not very helpful or friendly.  I don't know where to file a complaint about this unfriendly service, but my issue did not get resolved as a result of lack of helpfulness on this matter, so here I am asking in the forums.

Can anyone also tell my why my screenshot is uploading as a triangle above instead of the screenshot of the actual error?

Thanks for the help!

Hi,

I was able to get help from a walkthrough on Youtube and they told me to download something called HP Smart App. So I did, and I was able to print documents now from my Macbook Pro! Yay!

However, the next question concerns being able to scan from my printer to my laptop using the HP Smart App.  I have tried to do this, but all I'm getting is this message:

Screen Shot 2020-08-25 at 13.06.31.png

When I tried to set up the scan from my HP OfficeJet 3830 device itself by selecting Scan > Computer Not Listed, it just says no computer found and to Open HP Utility. But I don't see HP Utility on my applications list. Can someone help me on this? Other than that, everything else is working properly.

Thanks again!

Hi,

Download and install below drivers:

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/HP_Quick_Start/osx/Installations/Essentials/hp-printer-esse...

Power on and connect the printer, then open System Preferences > Printers & Scanners and click the plus sign.

Select your printer and then select your printer model (HP Deskjet 3830) from the Use drop-down menu and press on Add.

Finally, also install the HP Easy Scan app from the Store:

https://apps.apple.com/us/app/hp-easy-scan/id967004861?mt=12

Finally, open Printers & Scanners and double-click the printer, click on Printer Settings and open the HP Utility from within the Utility tab, under Manage Scan to Computer, ensure that Scan to Computer is enabled to allow front panel scanning too, as well you may scan from HP Easy Scan.
