Hi,

does anybody know if meanwhile it is possible to change scan settings like paper size or document type of a Scan-To-Cloud Shortcut directly at the printer‘s control panel? I mean without the need to use any app? That was a major blocker the last time I tested this printer. The scan settings were fixed to Letter format and settings were greyed out.

Thanks!

Hi @skr72,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Currently, for HP OfficeJet 9132e printers, the control panel does not allow for changes to be made to scan settings, such as paper size or document type, directly for a Scan-To-Cloud Shortcut. These settings must be configured using the HP Smart app or HP printer software. The printer's control panel typically allows selections for limited scan options such as scanning to email, computer, network folder, or SharePoint, but detailed settings adjustments like paper size remain largely managed through the app or software interface.

For more extensive control over scan settings, including paper size and document type, using the HP Smart app or HP printer software on your phone or computer is currently necessary. Unfortunately, this means that for tasks like Scan-To-Cloud, the settings modified will need to be done through the app, as the options might be greyed out directly on the device.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Hi @Jerry_57

If this is by design, this feature is a failure.

What’s the purpose of having shortcuts on the control panel if I need an extra app anyway? And why is it not possible to create shortcuts with different settings then? Assuming that letter format and single sided scanning as default for the whole world on a device that gets sold with duplex scanning does not make sense either.

As this printer is sold as an office solution, does HP really expect that every employee gets a mobile with the HP app and access to the printer just to be able to scan something in the European common format DIN A4?

Does HP expect that the user needs to change this settings every single time?

I would appreciate to get these questions forwarded to the product manager of this printer and to get some insight on the rationale behind the decision to NOT allow the user to change scan parameters at the control panel directly!

Thanks

Hi @skr72,

I'm here to assist with your concerns about using scan shortcuts from the control panel of your HP OfficeJet 9132e. Shortcuts are designed to simplify repetitive tasks, allowing users to print, scan, or copy using predefined settings directly from the printer's control panel. However, some settings might need to be configured initially via the HP app or the printer's software on a computer to ensure they meet your specific needs.

Here's a general overview of how shortcuts work and how you might adjust them:

Scan Shortcuts Overview

  • Personalise Settings: Shortcuts can often be customized through the HP app, allowing you to set preferences like page size, scanning options (duplex or single-sided), and destinations for saving or sending scanned documents.

  • Control Panel Use: Once set up, shortcuts can usually be used directly from the printer's control panel for quick operation without needing to adjust settings each time.

Creating or Editing Shortcuts

  • HP App or Software Requirement: To create or edit shortcuts with specific parameters like paper size or duplex scanning, you often need to access the HP app or the printer's management software. This setup process ensures that the shortcuts work as intended and that all potential settings can be adjusted beyond the limitations of the physical control panel.

  • Customization Flexibility: You can tailor the scan settings, email addresses, file types, and other parameters through the software, which is then seamlessly integrated into the control panel for day-to-day use.

Troubleshooting Settings Issues

  • If your device defaults to standard settings such as 'letter format' and 'single-sided scanning,' make sure your desired configurations are saved in the shortcut settings through the HP app or similar.

For detailed instructions on creating or editing shortcuts using the HP app, you might want to visit HP printer setup (HP app) to get started with the setup on your mobile device or computer.

I hope this helps.

Hi Jerry_57,

unfortunately changing settings like paper size or duplex scan cannot be changed for a Shortcut to scan to a cloud destination.

What works is to create such a shortcut with a cloud destination and then use the HP app to run such a shortcut. Then the user can change settings for this specific scan but only in the app. And as the defaults are hardcoded in the shortcut the user has to change these every time.

So there is no way to create a shortcut to scan to a cloud destination with different default scan settings.

And again, what's the purpose of having shortcuts that appear at the printer's control panel that shows all settings under the button "settings" but you're not allowed to change any of them? In contrast, scanning to a USB drive or some destination that does not require a shortcut changing the settings is easily possible at the control panel. Just shortcuts does not work. And you need to use shortcuts for cloud uploads. (BTW this all worked with OfficeJet printers 15 years ago.)

So is there any option to submit product feedback? Opening a support ticket to submit product feedback is a pain as this just leads to someone trying to circumvent the issue instead of filing this to the product team.

Thanks.
