My printer started to put a light yellow tone on my printed pages. I checked the toner level and yellow was low. I replaced the yellow toner cartridge and then I received a Printhead error (missing, not detected or incorrectly installed). I did not pull my printhead out.

Hi @interm71,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you’re experiencing a printhead error after replacing the yellow toner cartridge in your printer, even though you didn’t manually remove or touch the printhead, it might be related to several potential issues. Here’s a detailed troubleshooting guide to help resolve the problem:

1. Check Printhead Installation:

  • Re-seat the Printhead: Even if you didn’t remove it, the printhead might have shifted. Open the printer’s access door, carefully remove the printhead (if possible), and then reinsert it, making sure it clicks into place securely.

2. Inspect Toner Cartridge Installation:

  • Correct Installation: Make sure the yellow toner cartridge is installed correctly. It should fit snugly into its slot and click into place.
  • Protective Tape: Verify that any protective tape or covering on the new toner cartridge was removed before installation.

3. Check for Printer Errors:

  • Error Messages: Look at the printer’s display panel or software for any specific error messages related to the printhead or toner cartridges. These messages might provide clues about the issue.

4. Clean Printhead and Cartridges:

  • Printhead Cleaning: If your printer allows, clean the printhead contacts using a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water. Ensure that the contacts are completely dry before reinstalling the printhead.
  • Cartridge Contacts: Also, check the toner cartridge contacts for any toner residue or obstructions.

5. Power Cycle the Printer:

  • Turn Off and On: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on. This can sometimes reset the printer’s internal sensors and resolve temporary issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
