Hi @cateyd
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you're having trouble reattaching the cover on the paper tray of your printer, it could be a result of how the tray or cover is aligned. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you get the cover back onto the paper tray correctly:
Steps to Fix the Paper Tray Cover Issue:
Remove the Paper from the Tray:
- First, remove any paper you may have loaded into the tray. Sometimes, excess paper or misalignment can prevent the cover from snapping back into place.
Inspect the Cover and Tray:
- Check both the tray and the cover for any small hooks or tabs. These are meant to slot together, so you’ll need to align them carefully.
- Look for any obstructions or debris inside the tray or cover. If there's something stuck, remove it.
Check for Proper Alignment:
- Place the tray on a flat surface and hold the cover above it.
- Align the tabs on the cover with the slots on the tray. Make sure the cover is straight and evenly aligned on both sides.
- Do not force the cover into place, as this can damage the tabs or the tray itself. If it feels like it’s not going on smoothly, double-check the alignment.
Slide the Cover Into Place:
- Slowly lower the cover onto the tray, keeping it even.
- Gently press down on the sides of the cover until you feel the tabs click into place.
- If the tray has a sliding mechanism for the cover, ensure that you are inserting the cover in the correct direction (usually from front to back or vice versa, depending on the printer model).
Reinsert Paper into the Tray:
- Once the cover is properly attached, you can reload the paper. Make sure not to overload the tray with too much paper, as that could interfere with the cover’s fit.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
