I am about to hurl my DeskJet 3630 through the window, due to my frustration at identifying & resolving a crazy issue !! Before I proceed, I would hasten to add that I am pretty well-informed & experienced with IT software & devices, and have tried absolutely every documented solution to resolve this infuriating behaviour. I have downloaded, installed & run every one of the recognised HP problem solving applications (HP Smart, Scan Doctor etc), but none have proved in any way useful to resolve my difficulties. I have removed & reinstalled the device & software on numerous occasions, but low and behold, the problem persists & I can find no direct reference to the behaviour I am experiencing, anywhere on support sites (HP or general). I subscribe to an ink plan, so my cartridges have plenty of juice installed.
So, onto the behaviour. Every 5 minutes or so, the printer goes through the normal motions you would expect, should you be turning the unit on, after a period off. The carriage moves backwards & forwards, whilst the lights on the console similarly go through the steps you would expect, should you be turning the printer on. This constant shuffling backwards and forwards of the carriage is now driving me crazy, as the only way I can prevent the behaviour is by turning off power to the unit completely !!!
On the plus side, when I do want to print, the unit works fine, although it frequently goes to sleep completely, which means that I have to disconnect & reconnect the power supply, to get up and running again.
I find it difficult to believe that I am the only user suffering with these "peculiarities", so could somebody out there please offer me some advice & assistance.

I would be eternally grateful if somebody from the HP support team could please offer me some advice as to how I may overcome this problem !! I am now getting emails from the HP ink supply / subscription team, asking me to check why my printer is not accessible, as they cannot link to calculate my usage. To be honest, if this situation persists, I may as well cancel my monthly subscription a together, and buy a new printer from an alternative supplier. Is there no way that somebody could log onto the device remotely, to have a look at what is going on ??
