Hi,

I upgraded my MacBook Pro Intel to M4 Pro, MacOS Sequoia 15.7.1.

When try adding printer using HP Easy Start 2.15.0 (240923), at the step of "Add and Verify Your Device", it prompted for an administrator's name & password. After that gets "Cannot configure the device software."...and printer cannot be added.

  • Easy Start detected the printerEasy Start detected the printer
  • Easy Start prompted for administrator loginEasy Start prompted for administrator login
  • Easy Start cannot add the printerEasy Start cannot add the printer

I've tried adding the 2336 printer using the Mac's built in HP Deskjet series driver and Generic PCL driver. When try printing, the printer's power light would blink but nothing happens. Nothing appears in the Print Queue. Then I run HP Easy Start, until the same "Add and Verify" step, try the "Switch to the HP Driver"... same, it prompted for administrator's name & password then gave "Cannot configure the device software."

  • Apple can detect printer online/offlineApple can detect printer online/offline
  • Easy Start options to Switch to HP DriverEasy Start options to Switch to HP Driver

What can I do to add the printer so I can print & scan again? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi @Guazi,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand you have trouble. Here’s the guidance for resolving “Driver Unavailable” and Idle status on your HP OfficeJet 250:

Step 1: Remove and Reinstall the Printer Driver

  1. On your Windows PC, go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  2. Right-click your HP OfficeJet 250 and select Remove device.
  3. Restart your computer.
  4. Download and install the latest driver from HP:

Step 3: Set Printer as Default

  • Go to Settings > Bluetooth & Devices > Printers & Scanners.
  • Select your printer and click Set as default.
  • Turn off “Let Windows manage my default printer” if enabled.

Step 4: Restart Print Spooler Service

  1. Press Win + R, type services.msc, and hit Enter.
  2. Find Print Spooler, right-click, and select Restart.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
