Double sided printing on single page sheet

When I print a single page document, the printer prints the page and then flips to the other side prints nothing and finishes. The printer is set for two side printing & is set to print the front side first. Any help would be appreciated.

If the document has just the single page - there is no reason to select two-sided.

Doing so will cause the printer to behave as you describe, that is, print the single side, flip, and then attempt to print a second side.

Document settings are adjusted in the printer application / software you are using (unknown).

What you can do - and how the settings are adjusted - are both model and driver dependent.

For example,

• Even if you do have a two-sided document to be printed, not all paper sizes (or paper types) are compatible with duplex (2-sided) printing.
• If you do not have the full driver printer software installed, there are fewer settings and options available.
• If the settings are correct > If the full driver is installed but not functioning as expected, 
  • Uninstall the printer software from Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features
  • Restart the computer and log in
  • Install a fresh copy of the full driver
  • Restart the computer and log in

The following assumes the Full Feature Software / full driver printer software is installed (and functional) in Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features

Examples...

Adjust settings in Printing Preferences

Duplex / Simplex option in Printing Preferences (Model Dependent)

Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers 

Right-Click Printer > Select Printing Preferences

For Duplex:  Select a shortcut that provides the two-sided option and leave that shortcut highlighted (selected)

For Simplex (one sided):  Select a shortcut that does include NOT two-sided option and leave that shortcut highlighted (selected)

And / Or (if your printer software supported “custom shortcuts”)

Select a shortcut > Make changes that includes what you need / want (two-sided or one-sided)

NOTES

• Not sure where to start?  Select Shortcut “Everyday Printing” or “Everyday Scan”
• Remember to check the settings within each Tab section
• Pay attention – not all Media types (kind of paper) and / or paper sizes support Duplex

Optional

If the printer supports the option,

Save the changed shortcut settings by clicking on the Master (currently selected shortcut) or use “Save As” (wording varies) to create a Custom shortcut

Leave the (new / custom) shortcut you want highlighted as the “default”

Click Apply / OK to save the shortcut

Select a Shortcut

Adjust settings in main menu and "tabs"

HP Smart application also depends on having installed the Full Feature Software / full driver printer software for the printer.

The "More Settings" selection opens the print driver (Preferences) where you can select / verify your Shortcut and settings for this job.  Click OK to save any job settings and exit the More Settings menu.

Method - Use the Easy Start Wrapper to Install the Full Feature / Full Driver Software

For printers that support the option,

Use the Easy Start wrapper to install and configure the printer software.

• Home Page - HP Easy Start 
• Open Category Software and Drivers 
• Topic: Software-Utility 
• Download-and-Save  the current version of the Easy Start wrapper to install your print software 
• If using USB:  Disconnect the USB cable between the printer and computer before installing the software.

• Right-Click on the downloaded package and "Run as Administrator" to start the installation

• Select to install the “Full Driver” / “Full Feature Software”
• If using USB:  Connect the cable when instructed to do so (near the end of the installation process).
• After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in.

Notes >> Easy Start... The Journey

1. Full Administrator Rights are required to complete the HP Software installation.
2. About 2/3 of the way through the setup, you will be given the opportunity to select the software - select the "Full Driver" set (as opposed to the basic driver or other application).
3. You can skip / ignore suggestion(s) that you add the HP Account – you’ll need the account at some point, for now, you can skip this suggestion (as many times as it insists it’s a good idea) during the full driver software installation.
4. If you see it, you can skip / ignore suggestion(s) regarding Instant Ink subscription.  Instant Ink subscription is NOT mandatory.
5. Full driver includes print and scan functions supported by your printer and provides the printer features on which other applications / software might depend.
