Hi, my HP Envy 5010 printer was working fine through HP Smart, but recently dropped out. I have managed to re-install HP Smart and it can 'see' my printer but I am getting an error related to the printer drivers. I've tried various diagnostic tools but none of them have been able to solve the issue. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Welcome to the HP Community Forum.

If the installation is failing because pieces of printer software were stuck after the software was uninstalled,

(then)

Clearing the pieces out of their hiding places might help the installation succeed.

Basic Instructions - Install the Full Feature Software / Full Driver printer software

Preparation

  • If the printer software is still / already installed, Uninstall the printer software  from Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features > Restart the computer and log in – Reference Uninstall HP printer software and drivers

NOTE:  This printer also installed Help files - Uninstall the printer help file package from Programs and Features when you are uninstalling the main printer software.

  • >>> After the printer software is uninstalled, check that the printer is not still lurking in Devices and Printers.  If the printer is listed, Right-Click on the printer and "Remove" > Restart the computer and sign in.
  • >>> Do this >>> Continuing issues or "Driver Unavailable" during installation:  After you Uninstall the printer software > Restart the computer and log in >>> Add the steps described in the "Check and Remove" section
  • Check_and_Remove_Section_2Check_and_Remove_Section_2

Continuing

  • If using VPN, shut it off to install software.  NOTE >> If you don’t know what this is, you are not using a VPN – ignore this part.

  • Reminder:  If using USB cable between printer and computer, disconnect the cable before installing software.  Later... Connect the cable when instructed (near the end of the installation procedure).

Next,

Installation

  • Download and Save the Full Feature Software Web Pack installation package
  • Open File Explorer
  • Navigate to the folder in which you saved the installation file  (likely Downloads)
  • Right-Click on the installation package and “Run as Administrator
  • If using a USB printer cable to connect the printer to the computer, connect the cable when instructed to do so, near the end of the installation procedure
  • After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in

Thank you. I have followed the steps set out in your post but I get the following error message when I try to install the software. I can click into this folder so I'm not sure why it's giving me this error message. Any ideas?

Not at the moment -- the source of the problem is perhaps a write permission error.

That does not make sense in context of the installation folder having just been created for a fresh installation.

And

  • Right-Click on the installation package and “Run as Administrator

"Run as Administrator" should bypass any odd read / write issues.

Less likely, because you'd certainly notice if you are out of space -- there might not be enough storage space to install the software and this file is where it happened to stall out.

I'll edit / post back if I think of something.
