My new HP ENVY 5032 installs up until I get to the network driver. The installer correctly finds my printer, which I select and It says it is installing Network Device.   After some time the installer says "Unsuccessful Network Installation", "The device was unable to be installed over the network".

The printer is connected to the same wifi router as the laptop.

The laptop can clearly see the printer as the installer finds the printer

The HP Smart software can find and operate the printer for scanning.

I can not get the printer setup as a printer under windows 10

@freewheeling

Welcome to HP Forums,

This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂

I see that when you attempt to install the print driver and software for a wireless network, an Unsuccessful Network Installation error message displays.

I'd like to thank you for the detailed description of your concern, as you have ensured I don't have to ask any more questions, that said,

Firstly, let's try restarting the computer, printer, and router to resolve any connectivity error states.

Next, please perform these steps to uninstall the printer completely.

  • Uninstall the printer from "programs and features" which can be accessed by doing a right-click on the Windows button (Please have the printer Off and disconnected during uninstallation.)
  • Check in device manager, if the printer is listed there, please delete it. (Right-click on the Windows button to access device manager)
  • Go to devices and printers, select any printer listed there and you will get some options on the top.
  • Click on print server properties.
  • You will get a popup, click on the driver's tab and delete all the HP printer drivers listed there if any.
  • Delete all the instances of your printer listed in devices and printers.
  • Restart the PC.
  • Once the PC is on the desktop screen, press Win + R, it would bring a Run dialogue box,
  • Type %temp% in the run box and click Ok or hit the Enter button.
  • It would bring up the temporary files folder. Delete the files in the folder (You might not be able to delete all the files).
  • If possible, delete the printer from the registries using Regedit or using any other 3rd party application.
  • Restart the PC again.
  • Download the latest full feature driver by clicking here and install it on the computer.
  • Connect the printer to your computer only when the setup prompts for the printer.

I put the solution as accepted as although I fixed in a different way I believe that in effect I did all the steps as described.

The important bit, which I was missing was to remove the temporary files before re trying to install.

btw - although I didn't manually remove the temporary files, I am assuming this one done when I installed my previous 4500 printer after deleting all remnants of the HP 5000 install.   As when I then re-installed the HP 5000 it worked.
