All lights on, no error code, connection to internet good, new ink, full paper - will not print or copy. HP app recognizes printer but says "Printer cannot print" but no clue as to why. Ideas?

Thanks.

Hi @Mgs6,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand your HP Envy 6500 won't print or copy despite all lights being on and no error codes appearing, here are several troubleshooting steps you can take:

1. Power Cycle the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about a minute.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on.

2. Check for Paper Jams

  • Open the printer and check for any paper jams or obstructions.
  • Ensure that the paper tray is properly loaded and aligned.

3. Reinstall Printer Drivers

  • On your iOS device, ensure you have the latest printer drivers installed.
  • Remove the printer from your device settings and reinstall it.
    • Go to Settings > Printers & Scanners.
    • Select your printer and choose Remove.
    • Re-add the printer by selecting Add Printer or Scanner.

4. Reset the Printer

  • Perform a factory reset of the printer.
    • Locate the Settings or Setup menu on the printer’s touchscreen.
    • Find and select the Restore Factory Defaults or Reset option.

5. Check for Firmware Updates Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Ensure the printer’s firmware is up to date.
    • You can usually find this option in the Settings or Maintenance menu on the printer.
    • Alternatively, use the HP Smart app to check for updates.

6. Check Ink Cartridges

  • Even if you have new ink, make sure they are properly installed and compatible with your printer model.
  • Sometimes, reinserting the cartridges can help.

7. Run Printer Diagnostics

  • Use the HP Smart app to run a diagnostic check.
    • Open the HP Smart app on your iOS device.
    • Select your printer, then go to the Tools or Settings section and choose Printer Reports or Diagnostics.

8. Network Connection

  • Ensure the printer is properly connected to your Wi-Fi network.
    • Check the printer’s display for network status.
    • If necessary, reconnect the printer to the network.

9. Print Queue

  • Check the print queue on your iOS device to ensure there are no stuck print jobs.
    • Go to Settings > Printers & Scanners.
    • Select your printer and open the print queue to delete any pending jobs.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
