Hi @tj1093,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP 6100e series printer taking extended time to print after firmware update 2241. Let’s go through a few checks.

Step 1: Restart the Printer and Network

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the printer and wall outlet.
  • Restart your Wi-Fi router and wait until it is fully online.
  • Plug the printer directly into a wall outlet and turn it on.
  • Try printing a short one-page document.

Note: Avoid using a power strip during testing.

Step 2: Check Printer Connection Status

  • On the printer control panel, open Wireless Settings.
  • Confirm the printer shows as Connected to your network.
  • If signal strength is low, move the printer closer to the router.
  • If using Wi-Fi, temporarily connect via USB and test print speed.
  • Slow or unstable network communication can cause long “Processing” delays before printing begins.

Step 3: Set Printer as Default and Clear Print Queue (Windows)

  • Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  • Right-click your HP 6100e printer and select Set as default printer.
  • Double-click the printer icon to open the print queue.
  • Cancel all pending print jobs.
  • Restart the computer and test print again.
  • Old or stalled jobs can delay new print requests.

Step 4: Update or Reinstall the Printer Driver

  • Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
  • Select your HP 6100e printer.
  • Click Remove device.
  • Restart the computer.
  • Reinstall the printer using the latest full feature software from HP.com.
  • This refreshes the driver configuration after firmware changes.

Step 5: Check Print Quality Settings

  • Open Printer Properties from Devices and Printers.
  • Go to Printing Preferences.
  • Set print quality to normal instead of best or maximum DPI.
  • Disable any special paper type unless required.
  • Print a test page.

High-resolution or specialty print modes can significantly increase processing time.

If the delay happens before printing starts (for example, it shows “Printing” but nothing happens for a long time), the issue is usually related to communication or driver processing rather than the print engine itself.

I hope this helps.

I'm glad I could help! 😊 If this resolved your issue, please mark it as "Accepted Solution" and click "Yes" on "Was this reply helpful?" Your feedback not only keeps us going but also helps others find the solution faster! 👍
