The Full installation package for the Officejet Pro 8210 does not detect the printer connected to a USB port but oddly the Smart App does detect it and installs the basic driver allowing me to select the printer and print normally via Windows 11 printers.
Also, if I connect via ethernet it will detect and allow the full install package to install ... and then it prints via the USB not via ethernet. Only then it seems to have installed twice - a USB printer AND a network printer.
Might also be a connection - If I send a print job it prints ok but the job seems to stick on the print queue for a few minutes after printing preventing the next job from printing until the first one has disappeared from the queue.
I also have these 3 Windows Update errors -
Hewlett-Packard - USB - 11/8/2018 12:00:00 AM - 38.8.1937.18312
Install error - 0x80070103
Hewlett-Packard - USB - 11/8/2018 12:00:00 AM - 38.8.1937.18312
Install error - 0x80070103
HP - Printer - 8/9/2018 12:00:00 AM - 61.183.21507.200
Install error - 0x80070103
The user needs to both print and scan and does not want to use the Smart App so I need to do the Full Install.

Hi @Duncan48,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're encountering multiple issues related to the printer installation and Windows update errors. Let's break down the problems and try to resolve them.
USB Printer Not Detected by Full Installation Package
The full installation package for the HP OfficeJet Pro 8210 is not detecting the USB connection, but the HP Smart App is able to detect it and install the basic driver. Since the printer is working via the Smart App, but you want to use the full driver suite, you can try the following:
Steps to Fix:
Uninstall Existing Drivers:
- Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
- Right-click on the HP printer and select Remove device.
- Next, go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps, and uninstall any HP software or drivers related to your printer.
- Reboot your system.
Download and Install Full Driver Manually:
- Go to the HP support website and search for the HP OfficeJet Pro 8210 drivers.
- Download the latest Full Feature Software and Driver package for Windows 11.
- Before installation, ensure your printer is connected via USB and powered on.
- Run the installation and follow the on-screen instructions. This should force the software to detect the printer when it's connected via USB.
USB Troubleshooting:
- Try connecting the printer to a different USB port.
- Uninstall and reinstall the USB drivers through Device Manager: Right-click on Start, select Device Manager, then find Universal Serial Bus Controllers. Right-click on USB Root Hub and choose Uninstall device. Afterward, reboot your PC and reconnect the printer.
Connection Through Ethernet, but USB Prints
It seems that after installing the full driver package through Ethernet, the printer defaults to the USB connection, even when connected via Ethernet. This could be a conflict in the printer's settings.
Fix for Multiple Connections (USB & Ethernet) Conflict:
- Open Devices and Printers, and remove the USB printer if you do not intend to use it.
- In the printer’s properties (right-click the printer icon), check the Ports tab. Ensure that the Ethernet connection is selected, not the USB connection.
If you want to prevent this from happening in the future, try setting your default printer in Windows Settings > Printers & Scanners by selecting the printer that is connected via Ethernet.
Print Job Stuck in Queue
The print job is getting stuck in the queue after printing, likely due to a print spooler issue.
Steps to Fix Print Queue Issue:
- Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
- In the list of services, find Print Spooler, right-click it, and select Restart.
- To ensure this issue doesn't happen again, you can set the Print Spooler service to start automatically: Right-click Print Spooler, go to Properties, and set the Startup type to Automatic.
