OfficeJet Pro 7740
macOS 10.15 Catalina

After updating my Macbook Pro's OS to 10.15.7 I started experiencing difficulties printing to my HP OfficeJet Pro 7740.  First, whenever I print a document (Word, PDF or Email, etc.), a log-on screen pops-up asking for my user name and password.  Also, the image of the printer on the pop-up banner is not the HP 7740, but another printer model.  I discovered that the user name and password requested was the administrative name and password I use for my Mac.  After fooling around with some of the settings following an hour-long phone call with an Apple customer service rep, now my HP 7740 which has worked flawlessly for over three years can no longer find my Wi-Fi network.  And when I tried resetting the printer, I discovered that my original Wireless Setup Wizard "had been locked by the person who originally set up the printer" (me) and inaccessible.  I also downloaded and tried using HP's "HP Smart" app but with no success... the app couldn't find my printer since it lost its ability to connect to my wi-fi network.  I'm at a loss as what to do, and may have to pay $100 for an HP tech to help me unlock my Wireless Setup Wizard and restore my HP OfficeJet 7400 to perfect working condition.  Has any else had this connectivity issue since OS 10.15.7 was launched?

Hi @Russ230,

I'd like to help!

We can perform a factory defaults on the printer to resolve the issue

  • The reset instructions are specific for your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may corrupt the device.
  • I've sent you a private message with reset instructions, follow the reset instruction to perform a full reset and re-initialize the printer.
  • In order to access your private messages, click the private message icon on the upper right corner of your HP Forums profile, next to your profile Name or simply click on this link: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/notes/privatenotespage

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
