@robert654896, Welcome to HP Support Community!

Unfortunately, we do not have an option to do so.

However, if you could let me know the issue that you're facing with the printer, I can try to help you with solutions.

Keep me posted.

Cheers 🙂

That's too bad that HP won't allow firmware downgrades.   Part of this is an obvious effort by HP to prevent use of third party ink cartridges to force us to buy the grossly overpriced HP cartridges.   I hadn't bought a HP printer in 10-15 years, how I remember why.   This WILL be my last HP printer.   I will attempt to return it to Best Buy.   If not, I may just throw it in the trash, that will be cheaper than paying your extorted printer cartridge prices.

@79AG, Welcome to HP Support Community!

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).

If you are unfamiliar with how the Forum's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.

Did you find a solution to downgrading your firmware?  If not, I may have a solution.

While this is probably too advanced for most users, here are the steps I used to downgrade my HP OfficeJet Pro 8710.

Make sure printer is already on the network and accessible from a windows computer.  You must know your printers IP address before continuing.

Tools needed:

Download old firmware package you want to install from:  ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/networking/software/pfirmware

** You must select the version you need installed.  Firmware extension is .rfu.  Below example is for a HP OfficeJet Pro 8710.

Download Ncat from:  https://nmap.org/ncat/

  1. Place firmware file in same directory has ncat.exe
  2. From windows command prompt run:  ncat.exe -w 100 [your printer's IP address] < ojpro_8710_1834A_08212018.rfu
  3. Wait for command prompt to return
  4. Once command prompt returns, reboot printer
  5. Verify firmware downgrade (check version)

Hope this helps!

This is what I wanted but, fortunately, the updated chips have come out and this may not be needed.   Thanks for getting back with me.

Thanks for this but my printer refuses connection. I'm wondering if the latest firmware blocks downgrades full stop. Great way to put people off HP printers
