HP 8725 asking for new, unused cartridges for "setup" but it's not a new printer

Hello, 

 

I have a very strange and frustrating issue here. There was a power outage at my house, and when the power came back on the printer all of a sudden was asking for new, unused cartridges for "setup" and would not allow me to use any functions.

 

I did an OOBE reset through the service menu, and the error still persisted, and now I can't even access any menu items!

 

I caved and spent $185 on a new set of cartridges, thinking it would solve the problem, but I still get the same error even with the new cartridges!! WTH??

 

I just upgraded the firmware to the latest from online, and the issue is not resolved.

 

Now I am stuck with a useless printer and two sets of cartridges that I cannot use... This may be the last HP printer I ever use. Can anyone help me resolve this quickly??? I have no more options left...

@yermo, Welcome to the HP Support Community! I’m here to help.

 

I understand you do not have the setup ink cartridges. We will have to perform an OOB reset on the printer to resolve this issue.

  • The reset instructions are specific for your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may corrupt the device.
  • I've sent you a private message with reset instructions, follow the reset instruction to perform a full reset and re-initialize the printer.
