Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi community,

I recently bought a new printer and tried to setup „scan to network folder“. I’m using a Synology 718+ with SMB 2 and 3 turned on as well as in the printer settings activated. I setup an additional user in my Synology which can only read/write to the scanning folder. In addition, the printer is correctly connected to the same network as the Synology device. Sending scans to a PC works fine, but everytime I try to setup the „scan to network folder“ function, it says „Network failure. Check the printer's network connection and try again.“ The thing is, I can change the network adress to every adress I want, the failure code is the same.

I don’t really know what to do as a last option..

Greetz, Chris

Not sure - we've not had the Synology around for a while - I do believe (as I recall) that the setup is similar to the NAS hardware we are using now.

The following example illustrates a bit of the setup.

Map the drive to the computer

Create the Profile in EWS

Example - Scan to Network - Officejet Pro 9025

Hi Dragon-Fur,

the crucial point was to use the ip adress INSTEAD of the server name. I always read that you could use the server name as well like "\\mysynology\scan_folder". Here, you need to take the ip adress.

Thanks for your hidden hint!

Edith says: For all the others, to login on the Synology disk station you need to use the user name and the password of the disk station and NOT of the device you are setting all things up.

You are welcome.

Windows does not (generally) make use of the hosts file.

Printers are aware of the network (of course) and do not make use of a hosts file.

Using the IP address works (as a rule) and eliminates the need to guess about what information a device can translate.

The example shows using an IP address for Scan-to-Network.

The same general rules can be applied when creating Digital Fax to Network Folder (EWS > Fax > HP Digital Fax > Digital Fax Profile > Network Path >> Use the Destination IP address for the "server name".

Stay Safe.
