HP Envy 4500

HP Envy 4500 used with HP Spectre laptop, using Windows 10 Home (v. 20H2)

I have owned and worked with this printer/scanner for 5 years and have always had automatic (i.e. not manual) duplex printing until a few days ago. Now, the "print on both sides of the paper" option is no longer available in Word, Excel or even Adobe PDF. It DOES still print double-sided when printing from my iPhone and iPad.

I have not changed anything to the laptop I work with, or to the printer settings. I have read the previous thread on this (from 2017/2018), and this is not the same issue.

Any help appreciated.

Hi @J_C206

 I'd be happy to assist you!

 Let's try and uninstall the printer software from the root level on your PC and install the full feature printer software.

--->In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.

--->Select your HP printer.

--->Select Uninstall.

--->In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.

--->In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”

--->Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.

--->Type printui.exe /s and click OK.

--->Click on the Drivers tab.

--->Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click remove at the bottom.

--->Select OK.

--->Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.

--->Close Devices and Printers.

And then reinstall the printer full-featured drivers from the software and drivers page

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Can you please clarify your instructions:

1/ “In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.”

I have:

Apps & features

Or

Add or remove programs

2/ “In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers”

I have:

Device Manager

Or

Printers and scanners

HP Recommended

1)Add or remove programs

2) printers and scanners.

Hope this helps!

Let me know!

Your instructions were probably for a different o/s because none of them gave me the options you suggested. I simply did a "remove printer" and then added a device which fixed the issue.

I am glad the issue is resolved.

The provided instructions were for Windows 10 OS.
