Envy 4528
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

I am currently struggeling with a HP Envy 4528 printer printing in colour. The printer was working fine until recently, but now it justs prints black and white from Windows and the colour option is gone. Colour copies work fine and even the diagnosis page is printed fine in colour, when triggered via the Envy 4528 software.

However, in der printing settings there is no colour option. Searching around in the web and here in the community, this seems to be a known issue. I tried various approaches:

0. Have you tried turning it off and on again? Yes, both notebook and printer

1. uninstalled and reinstalled the printer driver (Solution in HP Community )

2. tried to select a different driver back and forth to reveal the colour option (Solution in HP Community )

3. tried to install the Photosmart 7520 drivers (Solution in HP Community )

4. installed all available Windows updates

What else can I do? I am not really willing to dump a perfectly working printer just because of some nasty driver issues.

Thank you very much for your help in advance.

I can make one addition. The problem only exists, when the printer is connected via the network. I just tried to use a good old USB-cable. When printing via cable, I do have the colour option and the printer even prints in colour 😁. Unfortunately the Wife-Acceptance-Factor of the cable solution is very low - which was the reason to buy a wifi printer in the first place. So I still would love to print in clour via wifi.

Hi @MrPears

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the printing issue.

Please try adding the printer using IP address -

1.) Select “Start” and type “printers” in the search box.

2.) Choose “Printers & scanners“.

3.) Select “Add a printer or scanner“.

4.) Wait for the “The printer that I want isn’t listed” option to appear, then select it.

5.) Select “Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname” , then select “Next“.

6.) Select “TCP/IP Device” in the “Device type” list.

7.) Type the hostname or the IP address of the printer. Select “Next“. To find the IP address of the printer, touch the Wi-Fi icon on the printer's control panel.

8.) Windows should find the printer if the printer is on and configured correctly. You may have to specify more information. If prompted, Select the type of network adapter installed in the printer in the “Device Type” drop-down list. You can also click “Custom” to specify custom settings for the network printer. Select “Next“.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hi @Asmita6658,

thank you for your response. I actually tried something similar in the very beginning. I deleted the printer under "printers&scanners" and added ist again. But when searching, the network printer was found and I did not wait for the "The printer that I want isn't listed". But when adding the printer, I got a strange device, which indicated that the driver was not available - although I did not uninstall the HP driver, but just delete the device.

Is your approach different, when going via "The printer that I want isn't listed" and specifying the IP address manually?

Best regards,

MrPears

Please try creating a new user account and check -

1. Tap the Windows icon.
2. Select Settings.
3. Tap Accounts.
4. Select Family & other users.
5. Tap "Add someone else to this PC."
6. Select "I don't have this person's sign-in information."
7. Select "Add a user without a Microsoft account."
8. Enter a username, type the account's password twice, enter a clue and select Next.
9. Tap the Windows icon.
10. Select the User icon at the upper left corner of the Start menu.
11. Select the new user. You'll then sign into your account with your password from step 8.

Also, try updating the printer's firmware - HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

Let me know.

Unfortunatley, I did not find the time to try again creating a new user account. So I stick with the wired solution, even though this is not what I intended, when buying the printer.
