HP Envy 7640 .. printer works but scanner is not recognized .. Mac OS 11

macOS 11.0 Big Sur

The printer works fine but when I try to connect to scan, I get a message "the operation couldn't be completed."

The scanner used to work fine before I installed os 11.

Don't tell me to use HP Smart for Desktop.  I installed that (incredibly annoying that it requires all sorts of user info ... all I want is to scan!) but it also does not work for scanning.

I'd appreciate some help.  Thanks.

Welcome to the HP support community.

Remove and add the printer using Airprint

Click the Apple menu, and then select System Preferences.

Depending on your operating system version, click Print & Fax, Print & Scan, or Printers & Scanners.

Click the name of your printer, click the Minus sign, and then delete the printer.

Select printer and click the minus sign

Click the Plus sign, and then click Add Printer or Scanner.

Click the Use or Print Using box, and then select AirPrint

Select AirPrint from the Use menu

Click Add to add the printer to the list.

Try to print.

Let me know how it goes.
