HP LaserJet Tank MFP 2604sdw

Hi, I opened the door of my printer and now I can't close it. Looks like many other people have had this problem, but I haven't found an answer. There is a grey plastic part on the right side that supports the top when open, and it seems like it's stuck. Please help.

Hi @jtdante,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

This looks like a hardware issue.

Here are some steps to help troubleshoot the issue with your HP LaserJet 2604sdw's door not closing due to the grey plastic part being stuck:

1. Check for Obstructions:

  • Inspect the area around the grey plastic part and the hinges to ensure there is no paper or small debris causing it to be stuck.
  • Look closely at the door latch or the part where the door connects, as any obstruction could prevent proper closing.

2. Manually Adjust the Plastic Part:

  • Gently try to manually move or wiggle the grey plastic part. It may just be misaligned or caught on something internally.
  • Avoid applying too much force, as this could damage the mechanism.

3. Inspect the Hinge Mechanism:

  • Check if the hinge mechanism supporting the top cover is jammed. Lightly lubricating the hinge with a small amount of silicone spray (specifically for plastic parts) may help free it up if it's stiff or stuck.

4. Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it for a few minutes.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on to see if resetting the printer allows the door to realign and close properly.

5. Check for Any Broken or Loose Parts:

  • If possible, examine the area where the plastic part is attached to the door to ensure there are no broken or loose components.
  • If you find any broken pieces, you may need to order a replacement part or contact HP phone support for further assistance.

If the issue persists after trying these steps, it may require repair or replacement of the door mechanism.

Keep me posted for further assistance
