This printer (HP LaserJet Pro MFP M225dw) continually resets the date/time towards: 1/1/2000 12:00AM when I shut it down and restart. This is the date/time stamp I get on all items which I scan directly to a USB Stick. I don't have this issue whenever I scan the documents directly via my laptop or desktop (I am assuming that in such cases the process utilizes the computer's date/time during the saving of the documents). I have performed all firmware updates of the printer. I have also installed all relevant drivers on my computer, but this wouldn't make a difference of course, since the issue is particularly related to the scanning of any documents directly towards a USB. This printer has a soft touch display, no hard-buttons which could enable a NVRAM reset. Can anyone guide me to do a NVRAM reset on this machine? It will be my last option to try here. Or is this issue related to a (CMOS)-battery of some sort which needs to be replaced within the printer itself? I have read in the manual that the machine contains a small lithium battery on the formatter board and it is "not user removable" ;I do not know what the battery is for. Thanks in advance for your responses.

Hello @Whamster ,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Let me guess ... you turn off the printer via a power strip. This will trigger a reset and the time and date will be reset.
Plug the printer directly into a wall outlet.
Turn the printer on and off using only the ON/Off switch.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hi and thanks very much for the reply, it has been very much appreciated! 🙂
To answer your inquiry:
No, the printer is not shut on- and off via the switch on the power strip. The apparatus is connected to one (powerstrip) though, but the on/off button on the printer itself has always been utilized to date.
Nevertheless, I have decided to follow your instructions, have plugged it in directly to the wall outlet and tested the USB scan at various instances, with power on/-offs and manual time re-entering phases in between. But without the success I had hoped for.
I had also figured out the NVRAM reset via a post which I found via a sub-reddit and have applied this procedure as well. Also without success; the date/time keeps resetting to: 01/01/2000 12:00AM.
The printer's 1-year warranty was valid until mid-year 2016, this to give you an indication of its age. My conclusion is that this problem is possibly related to a depleted battery on the mainboard.
If you (or anyone else for that matter) have any further suggestions, then these will be appreciated.
Thanks again and best regards,

Yes, I have accessed the mentioned control panel and procedures via the soft display at (too) many times in the way described by you above, this due to the fact that date/time resets each time when I have shut off the equipment.

Hello,
if the printer works:
- print
- scan
- copy
- fax
without problems, then do not turn off the printer.
This is the solution.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
