I have Windows 11 and my HP Laserjet 1020 printer has worked for the last 3 years until an HP update a couple days ago. I feel like the update disabled the driver. I WILL NOT be purchasing any HP products ever again!!!

HP has little control over what Microsoft does on windows updates.
I may be able to help get the printer working again. Which of these 1020 is yours?
HP Laser Printers
HP LaserJet Printers

This is the windows 10/11 driver, it is unchanged since 2016
I noticed the following which is unusual IMHO.
This full software solution is the same solution as the in-box CD that came with your printer. This is not a software upgrade. If a prior version software is currently installed, it must be uninstalled before installing this version. |
There have been several report of a problem with windows update KB5050009 but your 1020 should not be affected.
What exactly was the problem you were having? Any error messages?

Thank you for your response. The printer was working fine with my computer for 3 years . A couple days ago I went to print and the printer was gone. I rebooted both the printer and computer but no luck. It just disappeared. I was thinking that somehow the last update removed it. When I try to install the driver, it gives a message to be sure the device is powered on and the cable is plugged in. I of course checked the power and cord. It doesn't recognize that it's connected.

Sorry, I thought it was just the driver.
Your printer is USB only. When you plug a USB device into Windows 10 or 11 the PC should beep
If you have the device manager on your display, the instant you plug in the USB the device manager will redraw its screen to show the printer.
If nothing happens make sure the USB cable is properly inserted and there is no debris or corrosion on either end of the cable. Try another USB socket on the PC. USB2 or USB3 either should work.
