My printer no longer prints in colours. It is a recurrent issue, happened in the past and resolved on its own. But now it has come back again and I really need a permanent solution.

I can copy a page in colour but can no longer print in colour. I don't even have the option to choose "colours" or black and white" under the printing preferences.

I have tried:

- Using the virtual agent

- Reading on this community

- Using the HP Print and Scan doctor

- Uninstall the driver / Install it again

- Remove the printer and HP smart fully from my laptop and install again.

- Install new softwares (which I can't because it always tells me my softwares are up to date).

I have no idea what is happening. The fact that this issue comes on and off might be due to a software/firmware update? I don't know.

I would be very grateful for some help.

Welcome to HP Community

I have gone through your Post and would like to help

Please uninstall the printer driver from root level and download the full feature software

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
2.) Select your HP Printer
3.) Select Uninstall
4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose ‘Delete’ or ‘Remove Device’
6.) Open up the run command with the “Windows key + R” key combo.
7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)
8.) Click on the “Drivers” tab
9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
10.) Select Ok
11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
12.) Close Devices and Printers
13.) Restart the computer and download the full feature software Link: https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/COL61240/mp-147826-1/OJ3830_Full_WebPack_1119.exe and follow the onscreen instructions

Hello @KrazyToad,

Thank you for your reply. I did everything as you said and unfortunately still printing in black and white.

When I tried to "force" the colour printing, this message came up

I can print in colour when using the HP smart plug in on my Samsung phone. But on my laptop, it is point blank refusing to print in colours. Even when using the HP doctor fix, the test page was black and white.

Thank you in advance for your help,

Helene

I was having the same issue with my office jet 3830 and the solution that I posted in a separate thread here (https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Setup-Software-Drivers/HP-Office-Jet-3830-Not-Printing-In-Colo...) worked for me.

I’m not sure since you have a different model if it will work, but still worth a shot. Good luck
