I'm having this exact issue.  "waiting for printer to become available....."  I've downloaded and reinstalled HP drivers numerous times.  Frustrating.    Does anyone haver any advice?

Thanks!

I selected Reset Printing System in System Preferences>Printers And Scanners and then reinstalled the latest printer driver which, for my printer, was dated Aug 4, 2020 which I downloaded from the HP site.

Thank you.  I don't seem to have the option of "reset printing systems".   Ive seen it mentioned in this chain, but not been able to locate it on my Mac Air. running Catalina.

Open System Preferences and select Printers & Scanners then select your printer in the list to the left and right click on it. You should get the options to Rename printer, Set default printer and Reset printing system.

Thank you so much.  I figured it out and was able to reset my printer systems.   But, still can't print.  I get a notification:  "Waiting for printer to become available."

These are the steps I took:

1. reset printing systems

2. Installed:

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/HP_Quick_Start/osx/Installations/Essentials/hp-printer-essen...

3. Restart.
4. Try to print.   No luck.

I did all this both with and without being connected to my printer.  (HP2512).

Thoughts?

Apologies if this sounds daft, but have you tried switching the printer off and then back on after30 secs?

What did you restart? If you mean resetting print ok, if not try that after installing download.

Thanks.  No worries.  🙂

Yes, I tried turning the printer on and off a few times.  And reconnected all cables.

No luck.   Still getting the 'Waiting for printer to become available".

Thanks.  I restarted my laptop after installing the download.   Then tried to print.

I wasn’t clear. After you download and install the fix, reset the print system in system preferences as discussed earlier
