Thanks very much and for sticking with me.    I did as suggested - and I was able to print one item.  (the one I needed urgently).

But now can't seem to print more.   this is truly odd.

Hello Nidostar, which link did you use? I still get an error with Bryan's link?

That link is weird ... the first time it downloaded fine; on later tries I had to re-start a few times to get it going. Keep trying and you'll get it.,

Delete the printer settings, downloaded a new one, and now get the following error: "Printing - Waiting for printer to become available". Any solution for this? I am still not able to print.

What I did was not to use the link in Bryan's post because, for me, it didn't work. So, to download the latest printer driver you go to the HP Site (support.hp.com). Go to HP Customer Support Page>Support>Software and Drivers  and click on the Printer icon. Then enter the model name and number of your printer and click Submit. On the next screen note which operating system the driver is for. On mine it defaulted to OSX 10. I then clicked on Choose a different OS and selected the version installed on my Mac (in my case Catalina so v 10.15). I then clicked on the plus sign next to Driver-Product Installation Software and downloaded the version of the driver shown. I have two different HP printers and it seems the same driver file applied to each. It is v5.1 dated 4 Aug 2020. But the version and Release Date of the latest driver for your printer may not be exactly the same.

I then installed the driver by clicking on the DMG file.

Just to be on the safe side I went to System Preferences and Reset the printing system (method explained in my earlier post). The left hand column then cleared all printers. I clicked on the plus sign at the foot of the left hand column and added my printer. That was it. Had it still not worked I would probably have switched it off then on again after a brief pause in the hope that normality would return.

The only suggestion I have for those still having problems would be to run the Easy Start app that came with the latest printer  driver download. But not being faced with that issue I can only guess at what more might need to be done to get your printer working.

really took several times, but this eventually worked. My HP F4480 is now printing and scanning. Thank you BryanCustomPure.

I did everything several times, but unfortunately I still cannot print, same message "waiting for printer to become available". Even though there is a kind of connection now since I have utility tab working and I could print the configuration print.

Any other solution for the "waiting for printer to become available" message.

Thank you in advance, I am starting to getting a bit desperate here.

has anyone figured out this MAC problem?  I've tried to get a real person on the phone and I can't - it says I need a case number when my issue isn't resolved but how do I get that! this is terrible - I mean cmon, NOW when everything is virtual the printer and computer don't match up...SERIOUSLY???

I don't know if this showed up here yet, but someone posted a solution on another forum. Took me seconds to fix. 😁

I have an Officejet Pro 8600.
