macOS 10.15 Catalina

We were having issues with our new printer set-up. A chat was started and we granted remote access to  "Kevin". After several minutes Kevin called and said the problem was with the computer, not the printer and he would go ahead and fix the problem for $199.  This seems like an absolutely ridiculous "solution" from tech support on a NEW printer. Does this sound like a typical HP tech support solution? We are now concerned about the remote access that we granted.

Sadly, this sounds like a scammer. Where did you find the contact information that led you to "Kevin"?  Unfortunately, a search for "HP Support" will lead to several non-HP sites on the first page of results.

 

I would suggest contacting HP support using the "Contact HP" link at the bottom of the page which leads to https://www.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp/contact.html 

 

You likely should also run a malware check on your computer.
