Welcome to the HP English Community --
Whether the app can clear itself depends on where the underlying cause of the problem is located.
For example,
If the cause is in the application itself or in the application's data that is kept in your user account, then issuing an HP Smart app Reset might allow the application to recover.
Important
Every device where HP Smart is installed must be running the latest version of the application for that device. This means that if you have HP Smart installed on another computer, tablet, or phone, that installation of the application must be a the latest version available on that platform.
What else?
If the reason the application cannot recover is an error deeper in the Windows Operating System, then the Reset of the app won't touch the source of the problem. File System corruption is nearly impossible to prove or repair with any of the HP Smart diagnostic tools -- the HP Smart app diagnostics does not delve into the OS to root out where File System problems might be located.
The general solution -- much hated -- is to reload Windows. Assuming the File System is the source of the problem(s), reloading the OS works.
