macOS 10.15 Catalina

Hi, I recently purchase a HP Office Jet Pro 8024.  I have connected it to my Wifi network and I have downloaded the HP Smart App to my Mac.  The Mac and printer are on the same Wifi network and I can successfully ping the printer (I can also print to it from my Mac).  However, the HP Smart App doesn't find the printer when I click "add printer" so I cannot use the full features such as scanning documents etc without having to go to the printer and use the control panel.  I have downloaded the HP Smart App to my iPhone and that works fine.  Any suggestions as to how I might resolve this issue?

@Sam6851, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

 

Do you have any internet security software installed on the MAC?

 

Update the printer firmware

Go to Setup > Tools > Update the printer

Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.

 

Also, check for any software updates on MAC

Click the Apple icon > About This Mac > Software Update and install any available update.

 

Check if the printer is detected by the app/ If now, reinstall the app from App store.

 

Alternatively, you may use HP Easy Scan or Apple Image Capture to scan from your MAC to check if they work.

Hi,

 

Thanks for getting back to me.

 

I did check those things before posting on here - the printer is up to date as is my Mac.

Having re-done what you suggest though, the HP Smart App still does not find the printer yet I can ping it, it is definitely on the same WiFi network, I can print to it and I have successfully installed the HP Smart App on my iPhone which works perfectly.

Could it be a Mac IOS issue? Is the printer and/or HP Smart App compatible with Mac IOS Catalina 10.15.6? 

 

By the way, the link you shared for updating the printer doesn't work.

 

I shouldn't need to use HP Easy Scan, the HP Smart App should work.

Grateful for any further help/suggestions.

Yes, HP Smart app is supported by this printer model and macOS 10.15. Let us try these steps:

 

Uninstall the app:
1. Click on the Finder then from the tool bar select Go then Applications.  Locate HP Smart in Applications then drag HP Smart icon into the Trash.

 

Re-install from the App store or from https://123.hp.com/

Nope, that hasn't worked.

I followed your instructions top the word - opened Safari etc - there is no download button but there is a button that says 'instal hp smart' clicking this takes me straight to the app store.
