HP Smart Tank 580 All-in-One Printer
macOS 26.0 Tahoe

Hi,

I have just setu up the printer, HP Smart Tank 580 and it works all right but it is beeping all the time no matter what I do..

No error on the screen, I have run software diagnostics - printed a couple test pages and my pages. used the scanner & scan function - all works - I just keeps beeping - very annoying.

What should I do.

Kind regards

Hi @Samsel1982

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

If your HP Smart Tank 580 is beeping continuously with no error on the display and all functions working, the issue is likely related to a system alert or a setting that needs to be adjusted.

Let's walk through a few steps to quiet the beeping and restore a peaceful printing experience.

1. Power Cycle the Printer

  • Turn off the printer using the power button.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet and the back of the printer.
  • Wait for 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back in and turn the printer on.
  • Observe if the beeping resumes.

This helps clear any temporary glitches in the printer’s internal system.

2. Check for Open Doors or Loose Components

  • Open and firmly close the ink access door and output tray.
  • Ensure all ink tank caps are tightly closed.
  • Confirm that the printhead access area is fully latched.
  • Remove and reinsert the printhead if recently installed, ensuring it clicks into place.

Even if the screen shows no error, a sensor might be detecting a misalignment or loose part.

3. Disable Audible Alerts (if available)

  • On the printer control panel, go to Settings (gear icon).
  • Navigate to Preferences or Sound Settings.
  • Look for an option like Button Volume or Alert Sounds.
  • Reduce the volume or turn off the sound.

This won’t fix the root cause if it’s a hardware alert, but it can help reduce the noise while troubleshooting.

4. Check for Paper or Ink Sensor Issues

  • Remove all paper from the input tray and reload it neatly.
  • Check for any small bits of paper or debris inside the paper path.
  • Ensure all ink tanks are filled above the minimum line and the tank lids are closed.
  • Gently clean the ink level sensors using a dry lint-free cloth if ink has spilled near them.

5. Run a Printhead Cleaning Cycle

  • From the printer control panel, go to Settings > Maintenance > Clean Printhead.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions.
  • This can help reset internal components and clear any sensor misreads.

6. Update Firmware via HP App

  • Open the HP App on your Windows computer.
  • Select your Smart Tank 580 printer.
  • Go to Printer Settings > Advanced Settings > Tools > Printer Updates.
  • Check for and install any available firmware updates.

Firmware updates often include fixes for unexpected behaviors like persistent beeping.

If the beeping continues after these steps, we can explore a few more advanced resets or isolate the sound source further. I truly appreciate your patience and the thorough checks you've already done—it really helps narrow things down.

Let me know how it goes and we’ll keep working together to get this resolved.
