LaserJet Pro 200 color Printer M251nw
macOS 11.0 Big Sur

New installation of MacOS 11.4 on 5K iMac. Printer was fine on previous installation of 11.4 but a hard drive crash forced a wipe and reinstall of the OS. I've installed HP Smart, which will not find the printer when plugged in via USB (the cable and ports are fine and the iMac sees the printer as shown in the screen grab attached here). I then set up the printer to connect to the same wifi as the iMac, and then HP Smart finds the printer, and it 'installs' it but it does not actually install the full drivers; it shows up as either Airport or Bonjour. The printer does work, but it's the generic print dialog and does not show things like manual duplex (the double sided option is greyed out) and it shows a feed/tray choice which this printer does not have.

Why is HP Smart not installing the full driver set, and why doesn't it see the printer when it's connected via USB? I need the full functionality of this printer and right now all I can do is print one-sided using the generic dialog.

Hi,

Please follow below version of HP Easy Start, as soon as it launches open the top HP Easy Start menu and select Uninstall HP Software.

Follow the steps on screen and then click on Set Up New Device and follow the steps to reinstall the printer:

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/HP_Quick_Start/osx/Applications/HP_Easy_Start.app.zip

As soon as HP Easy start prompts to install HP Smart, close HP Easy Start and press the Skip to Software Download button, then follow the steps on screen to complete the installation and check for any difference.

omg WOW this was exactly the solution. It's so stupid that HP literally makes this option impossible to find. Why isn't this provided in the software? Why did I have to delay my work for days and need to post to this message board in order to find the solution that took 5 minutes to accomplish? Thank you for this-- I'm so grateful to you and furious with HP.
