@toxicsox, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

When attempting to add your HP MFP M283fdw printer wirelessly using the HP Smart app, it's essential that the location services are correctly configured to allow the app to find printers nearby. Here are some steps you can follow to resolve the issue:

Ensure Location Services are Enabled:

  • Confirm that location services are enabled on your HP laptop. You can check this by going to the settings menu and verifying that location services are turned on.
  • Ensure that HP Smart has permission to use location services. Go to the app permissions section on your laptop and verify that HP Smart is allowed to access location data.

Restart Your Laptop:

  • A simple restart can sometimes resolve issues with app permissions and services not working correctly. Turn off your laptop, wait a few seconds, and then turn it back on before trying to connect again.

Reinstall HP Smart App:

  • If the issue persists, try uninstalling the HP Smart app and then reinstalling it. This can help clear any glitches with the app permissions.

Check Connectivity:

  • Ensure that your laptop and printer are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. If there are multiple networks available, make sure you're connected to the correct one.

Enable Bluetooth:

  • Sometimes Bluetooth needs to be enabled for successful detection of nearby printers. Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your laptop.

Update HP Smart App:

  • Make sure that you have the latest version of the HP Smart app installed. Check for updates in the Microsoft Store and install any available updates.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
