I have had my printer for several years and had very few issues with it however recently it has decided that I need the set up cartridges that were used when I bought the machine. Is there any way around this issue?

Hi @Acacia0827,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Check for Printer Updates:

  • Ensure that your printer’s firmware is up to date. Sometimes, updating the firmware can resolve cartridge recognition issues.
  • Visit the HP Support website to check for any available firmware updates for your printer model.

Power Cycle the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord from the outlet.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back in and turn on the printer.

Reinstall Cartridges:

  • Remove the current ink cartridges from the printer.
  • Inspect the cartridges and the contacts inside the printer for any dirt or residue. Clean them gently with a lint-free cloth if needed.
  • Reinsert the cartridges securely into their respective slots.

Perform a Factory Reset:

  • Sometimes, resetting the printer to its factory settings can resolve the issue. Note that this will erase any settings you have configured on the printer.
  • Refer to the printer’s manual for specific instructions on performing a factory reset, or follow these general steps: a. Press and hold the Power button. b. While holding the Power button, press the Resume button 3 times, then release both buttons. c. The printer will reset and restart.

Use the HP Smart App:

  • Open the HP Smart app on your computer or mobile device.
  • Go to Printer Settings and look for an option to manage or troubleshoot ink cartridges.
  • Follow any prompts or guidance provided by the app to resolve the setup cartridge issue.

I hope this helps.
