HP ENVY Photo 6230 All-in-One Printer

Like other users who don't seem to get the right answer, this HP Envy Photo 6230 won't boot up and its screen will stay like this indefinitely.

We have obviously tried turning it off and on again but exactly the same symptoms. The bar loads from LHS to RHS but nothing else happens once it has got this far.

Other HP models appear to have a secret menu that can be accessed when they get stuck during startup but I can't find any information on what to do on this one..

Hi @Tim6230,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP Envy Photo 6230 stuck on the boot screen. Let’s go through a few checks.

Step 1: Perform a Hard Reset

  • Turn the printer on (even if stuck on the loading screen).
  • Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  • Unplug the cord from the wall outlet.
  • Press and hold the Power button for 20 seconds.
  • Wait 2 full minutes.
  • Plug the printer directly into a wall outlet and turn it on.

Note: Do not use a surge protector during this test.

Step 2: Check for Cartridge or Carriage Obstruction

  • With the printer turned on, open the cartridge access door.
  • If the carriage does not move, unplug the power cord while it is still on.
  • Gently slide the carriage left and right by hand.
  • Remove both ink cartridges.
  • Close the access door and reconnect power without the cartridges installed.
  • If the printer boots further without cartridges, reinstall them one at a time.

Step 3: Check for Firmware Recovery Mode

  • Leave the printer powered on at the stuck screen.
  • Wait at least 5–10 minutes without interruption.
  • If the screen changes or restarts automatically, allow it to complete.
  • Interrupting firmware recovery during startup can cause repeated boot loops.

If the progress bar always completes fully and then freezes with no error message, it often indicates firmware corruption rather than a mechanical fault. If the screen remains completely responsive (not flickering or dim), that confirms the display itself is functioning.

I hope this helps.

Tried all of that.  Repeatedly, and it’s still not responding.
