My IT folks from my job are suggesting that the problem is with the nature of the App itself.
While HP Smart was a really good App, it was based upon Adobe Flash Player. That's the hypothesis they're going with anyway.
Now that Flash Player is disfavored and being phased out, the App doesn't work with updated systems.
If so, that may explain why HP isn't answering these posts with a fix.

The Flash phase-out is not an acceptable excuse. It was well-known and well-anticipated. That HP allowed their software to be made redundant or obsolete without planning, without a replacement, without notification to users - compromising work efficiencies for how many tens of thousands of people or more - is what class action lawsuits are made for.

The provided link takes us to a page entitled "HP print is offline or not responding" It says absolutely zero about scanning. How is providing this link supposed to do anything except increase our already-incredibly high levels of frustration? Seems rather cruel of you.
