HP ENVY 7640
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have upgraded my HP 7640 and I am trying to install the older one on my husbands computer registered in his name.  it is not allowing me to register it and I think it is because it is because it is in my name on my computer.

Consequently it is not letting me complete the download and allow my husband access.

How can I get around this?

@pag-8_8, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Are you trying to register the printer in Instant Ink service?

Or are you trying to install the printer on the PC?

To know how to enroll the printer in Instant Ink, refer to this document.

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor to diagnose and fix any driver issue

Click here to download the file. Once downloaded, make sure to run the file to start the installation and click on 'Fix printing'.

If the issue persists, proceed to the next step.

Hi Thanks for getting back to me.  I am only interested in loading the printer onto my husbands computer for his use  (not the ink plan).  The download did not get to the point where the trouble shooter application was available as an option.  When the HP application was asked to search for other devices to add, it came back with only the computer came up and no other devices found and would not let me add the printer.

Is it possible its the registration in my name and on my computer is the reason why I am being blocked from adding it to another computer under my husbands name?  If so how can I drop that registration and put it in my husbands name on his computer?

Thanks

Installing the printer on the PC has nothing to do with the registration.

  • Make sure the printer and the PC are connected to the same wireless network.
  • This printer supports only 2.4GHz network.

On the PC, Perform a clean reinstallation of Pre-installed HP drivers

  1.  In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
  2.  Select your HP Printer
  3.  Select Uninstall
  4.  In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
  5.  In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose ‘Delete’ or ‘Remove Device’
  6.  Open up the run command with the “Windows key + R” key combo.
  7.  Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)
  8.  Click on the “Drivers” tab
  9.  Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
  10.  Select Ok
  11.  Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
  12.  Close Devices and Printers, restart the computer.

Click here to download the HP Full-featured driver.

Once downloaded, make sure to run the file to start the installation and follow the on-screen instructions.

Try printing.

Keep me posted.
