I was recently donated a HP PageWide Color MFP 586 scanner/printer that is apparently a couple of years old, and hadn't been used for a while. In order to sign in to the unit, I apparently require an access code -- but the unit did not come with an access code, and the company that donated it isn't sure what the access code is. How do I go about figuring this out?

some other possibilities

The location of the PIN on an HP printer can vary depending on the model. Here are some common places to look:

  1. On a sticker: Many HP printers have a sticker on the back, bottom, or inside the cartridge access area with the PIN and other default credentials.
  2. On the printer display: If your printer has a display, you can find the PIN under the wireless settings or WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) settings.
  3. If no display: Press the wireless button and the information button at the same time for 3+ seconds to get a printout with the PIN
  4. In the user manual: The PIN is often listed in the printer's user manual or documentation that came with the device

If admin (Admin) and 12345678 or the above PIN do not allow login, then get a network status printout or ask Microsoft's Copilot

For Wi-Fi direct printing there is no username, you just need the printers Wi-Fi password that comes from the network status printout.

Please report back as I might be able to find some other way if it does not
