Microsoft Windows 11

I have been searching for instructions or details about how to remove a printer from HP Smart on a Windows 11 PC.   Several people have mentioned clearing the cache on a mobile device, but that did not resonate since I am not on a mobile device. (I did, btw, install HP Smart fresh on my mobile and try to remove the legacy printer - but could not find a way.)  I was able to resolve the issue with the clearing of the cache and resetting the application using the Settings -> Apps -> Installed apps -> HP Smart, clicking on the ellipses a selecting Advanced Options.  That brings the following page:

I did it in the order shown.  I did not check in b/t actions, so it's possible that just one of these may have corrected the problem.  In the end - I was able to launch a fresh instance of HP Smart, log in and just add my two current printers. It did not keep adding the legacy devices as it was doing initially.  (Incidentally - one suggestion was to login in to the HP Smart website and remove it from the list. I did that, while my HP Smart app was not running and re-launched my local App only to find it still there. I logged out and logged back in to HP Smart app - hoping that would refresh the cloud inventory - but no.)  It's a few steps - but I found it easier than uninstalling and reinstalling HP Smart.

Hi @timmo95,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you did a great job troubleshooting the issue! Here’s a concise guide on how to remove a printer from HP Smart on Windows 11, based on your experience and additional tips:

Removing a Printer from HP Smart on Windows 11

Open HP Smart:

  • Launch the HP Smart app from your Windows 11 Start menu.

Access Printer Settings:

  • Click on the printer you want to remove. This will bring up the printer’s settings.

Remove Printer:

  • Look for a gear icon or settings option related to the printer you want to remove.
  • There should be an option to Remove Printer or Delete Printer. Click it to remove the printer from the app.

Clear App Cache (If Necessary):

  • If the printer still appears or if you encounter issues, you might need to clear the app cache:
    • Go to Settings -> Apps -> Installed Apps.
    • Find HP Smart, click the ellipses (three dots) next to it, and select Advanced options.
    • Click Repair or Reset. Repair will attempt to fix any issues without losing your data, while Reset will clear all app data and settings.

Log Out and Log Back In:

  • If removing the printer doesn’t seem to take effect immediately, try logging out and logging back into the HP Smart app.

Check HP Smart Website:

  • For a more comprehensive solution, log in to the HP Smart website and ensure that the legacy devices are removed from your cloud account. This step ensures that the app syncs with the updated list.

Restart HP Smart App:

  • Close and restart the HP Smart app after making changes to see the updated list of printers.
