HP Envy 6020 E printer

Printing has faded in colour and black doesn’t print at all on HP Envy. The cartridges are only 7 months old and I have printed around 20 pages. I would like to run diagnostics but despite what I’ve been told I cannot find the facility on HP Smart App. Can anyone help?

Hi @BagsieMalone,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

I understand that you are facing issues with the print quality.

Update the firmware by selecting your current OS. Click here

Perform the following tasks in the order given. Use the printer after each task to see if the issue is resolved.

Uninstall then reinstall the HP printer software for Windows

  • Uninstall the HP print driver and software, remove the printer from your Devices list, and then reinstall the latest recommended HP driver or app.
  • Disconnect the printer from the computer or network.
  • Search Windows for and open Add or remove programs.
  • In the list of installed programs, click your HP printer name, and then click Uninstall. If your printer name does not display, select HP Smart, and then click Uninstall.
  • If a User Account Control message displays, click Yes.
  • Follow the instructions to complete the software removal, and then restart the computer.
  • Search Windows for and open Control Panel.
  • Click Devices and Printers.
  • For each printer icon with your HP printer name, right-click the icon, and then select Remove Device or Uninstall device to complete the uninstall.
  • NOTE: If no printer icons display, the printer has already been removed.
  • Go to 123.hp.com, and then enter your product name to download and install the software and drivers for your printer.

Clean the ink cartridges

  • The printhead could be clogged, and you might need to clean the printhead several times to restore print quality. Use an automated tool from the printer control panel to clean the printhead.
  • CAUTION: Never turn off the printer when ink cartridges are not installed. To avoid issues that require cleaning the printhead or that can damage the ink system, always replace ink cartridges as soon as possible, and always turn off the printer using the Power button.
  • On the printer control panel, swipe down on the touchscreen to open the Dashboard.
  • Touch the Setup icon .
  • Swipe up on the display, touch Tools, and then touch Clean Cartridges.
  • After cleaning completes, a Print Quality Diagnostic page prints.

Example of a Print Quality Diagnostic page

  • Examine the Print Quality Diagnostic page.
  • If the print quality is unacceptable, touch Yes to continue the next level of cleaning. If necessary, repeat these steps for the third cleaning cycle.
  • NOTE: If the printhead is badly clogged, it might require another cleaning cycle. If so, wait 30 minutes before you perform all three levels of cleaning again.
  • If the print quality is acceptable, touch No.

Click here for the remaining steps.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
