@Jenn3334, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Envy Inspire 7900 printer isn’t printing from the main tray, here are some targeted troubleshooting steps you can try:

Check Tray Settings in Printer Software

  • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers (or Settings > Printers & Scanners on Windows 11).
  • Right-click your HP 7900 printer > Printing Preferences.
  • Under the Paper/Quality or Features tab, ensure the Paper Source is set to Main Tray (or Tray 1).
  • Also, verify the Paper Size and Type match what’s loaded in the tray.

Check Printer Display Settings

  • On the printer’s touchscreen, go to Settings > Paper Handling.
  • Confirm that the Main Tray is set to the correct paper size (e.g., A4 or Letter).
  • If there's an option for Tray Locking or Tray Priority, ensure the main tray is not locked or deprioritized.

Disable Automatic Paper Type Detection

Try disabling this feature:

  • On the printer screen, go to Settings > Preferences > Paper Detection.
  • Turn off Automatic Paper Type Detection if available.

Check for Firmware or Driver Updates

  • Visit the support.hp.com.
  • Download and install the latest firmware and drivers.

Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer, unplug it from power for 30 seconds, then plug it back in and restart.

Use HP Smart App

  • Open the HP Smart App on your PC or mobile.
  • Go to Printer Settings > Advanced Settings.
  • Check the Tray and Paper Management section to ensure the main tray is selected.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
