Hp laser jet 4 with Windows 7 Professional

HP Recommended
Hp laser jet 4
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Computer with Windows 7 Professional and HP Laserjet 4 printer set up and working fine when last used together on 2-7-18.  Updates were installed on 3-14-18 and 3-26-18. On 3-26-18 discovered the printer would not print.  Computer recognizes that printer is “ready” but doesn’t print. Also checked the printer by doing a “self print” test from it’s control panel and that works fine.

The computer installed additional automatic updates on 4-12-18.  Have been trying to figure out best approach for resolving issue and discovered notes from a previous incident a few years ago which was resolved by performing a system restore to a date prior to the issue.  Tried a System Restore today with assistance from Tecnical Support Representative (have support contact on computer) but could only restore back to the 3-14-18 date and not back to a date when computer and printer were known to have been working together.  Support Rep said printers drivers are dated and no longer supported?

Would like to be able to continue the ability to use this computer and printer together if there is a way.....looking for advice a “Non-tech” can follow.

Have the same setup with another similar computer and same printer and haven’t had issues?  Help!

Never mind!  After all the troubleshooting we performed figured out the cable needed to be replaced...works like magic.
