Hi @JanHeff,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
Thanks for reaching out. Here’s how to handle both issues on your HP DeskJet 4100e: the orange light that won’t turn off, and printing works from iPhone but not iPad.
On HP printers, a solid or blinking orange (amber) light usually indicates an error or attention needed.
STEP 1: Check for Errors on the Printer
- Look at the control panel:
- Is there an “i” (information) icon lit or blinking?
- Any paper, ink, or Wi-Fi icons blinking?
- Press the “i” button once – this may print a status or error report.
STEP 2: Basic Troubleshooting
- Open the ink cartridge access door and check for:
- Properly installed cartridges.
- No tape left on new cartridges.
- No paper jams or foreign objects inside.
- Unplug the printer for 60 seconds and plug it back in.
If the orange light remains, let me know which icon is glowing or blinking with the orange light—it’ll help pinpoint the issue.
ISSUE 2: Prints from iPhone but not iPad
STEP 1: Check iPad Wi-Fi
- Ensure the iPad is on the same Wi-Fi network as your printer.
- Go to iPad Settings > Wi-Fi and verify it’s connected to the same router.
STEP 2: Use AirPrint
- Open something (e.g. a webpage or photo).
- Tap Share > Print.
- Check if your HP DeskJet 4100e appears as an option.
- If not, tap Select Printer and wait a few seconds.
STEP 3: Restart Devices
- Restart the printer, iPad, and Wi-Fi router.
- Try printing again from the iPad.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
