I need to know how to print a single business card using my HP Office Jet Pro 7740

I want to print a several business cards one at a time.  I do not see the option in the paper trays and HP's documented guidance isn't clear or helpful

Hi @Tamara1959,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

To print a single business card using your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740, you can absolutely do it—though the printer doesn’t have a dedicated “business card” tray, you can still print on business card-sized paper or custom-sized cardstock using the manual feed (Tray 1).

Here’s how to do it step-by-step:

1. Prepare Your Business Card Design

  • Use software like Microsoft WordCanvaAdobe Illustrator, or Avery Design & Print.
  • Set the page size to match a standard business card:
    3.5 x 2 inches (88.9 x 50.8 mm).

2. Load the Paper

  • Use Tray 1 (manual feed) for custom sizes.
  • Insert a single sheet of business card stock or a trimmed 3.5" x 2" card.
  • Adjust the paper guides snugly to fit the card.

3. Set Custom Paper Size in Printer Settings

On Windows 11:

  1. Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  2. Right-click your HP 7740 > Printing Preferences.
  3. Under Paper/Quality, click Custom.
  4. Create a new size:
    • Name: Business Card
    • Width: 3.5 in
    • Height: 2 in
  5. Save and select this size.

4. Print the Card

  • In your design software, go to File > Print.
  • Select your printer and the custom paper size.
  • Choose Tray 1 as the paper source.
  • Set print quality to Best for sharp text.
